Job Description
We are seeking a friendly and professional Junior Estimator to help support the growth of our business. As a Junior Estimator, you will play a crucial role in our project planning and pre-construction planning activities. You will engage with customers, suppliers, and vendors to understand the scope of upcoming projects and will help our vendors put together competitive quotes to win work for Eau Gallie Electric. Your responsibilities will include creating detailed estimates by evaluating material costs and project complexity in collaboration with the Construction leadership team. Your work will enable our company to expand and build new facilities while staying within budget. You will help build strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring accurate price estimates for our clients.
The day-to-day responsibilities of the Junior Estimator include:
- Review Customer RFPs and Other Proposal Documents: Identify key components within customer documents and identify the key trades, vendors, and elements required for a comprehensive proposal.
- Conduct Bid Analysis: Analyze project plans, specifications, customer documents, and vendor quotes/pricing sheets. Able to use basic math skills to perform calculations related to quantities, costs, and project budgets; Relate complex project requirements and scope to the original customer request.
- Leverage Eau Gallie Electric Tools to Obtain Quotes – Using the tools and existing relationships of the Company, obtain quotes from at least 3 different vendors for each key element of the proposal; evaluate what low bid competitors may be proposing and present to leadership team during the bid review.
- Engage Leadership to Overcome Obstacles – As the bid progresses, quickly and efficiently identify areas where additional clarification of requirements or support with vendor responsiveness is needed.
Key Characteristics of the General Manager
- Technical Knowledge: foundational understanding of the structure of RFPs/SOWs and are able to identify key components within customer documents. Understands the key elements of the proposal process and previous success building and winning small deals across a range of construction methods, materials, and their associated costs.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze project plans, specifications, customer documents, and vendor quotes/pricing sheets. Strong math skills to perform calculations related to quantities, costs, and project budgets. Able to relate complex project requirements and scope to the original customer request. Detail oriented with strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and precise estimates.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating software and tools, such as EBI, McCormick, Acubid, Esticom, and/or Sage Construction Suite. High technical aptitude, with experience working with workflow management tools like Asana, Trello, or Monday.com,
- Strong Communication and Time Management Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and suppliers; Proven ability to bring multiple last-minute vendor quotes together the day of the proposal being due; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Adaptability: Thrives in a dynamic environment, readily adapting to shifting project priorities and unexpected challenges. Demonstrates a flexibility and eagerness to learn new skills; proven ability contribute to successful project outcomes even amidst evolving circumstances.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with own reliable transportation.
- 3-5 years of commercial construction or trade related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sourcing techniques and applicant tracking systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
