Why do I need a Mobile Link connection?

A Mobile Link Fleet managed service allows our team to view the status of your generator which can help identify problems.  This can help cut down on the amount of downtime and could even allow us to help you get your generator back into operation without dispatching a technician. Not all generators will have the capability for a Mobile Link connections, please contact our generator service department and provide them with your generator’s serial number to determine if yours is compatible.

I paid for my warranty, isn’t maintenance included in that?

Maintenance and warranty are two separate things.  Your warranty covers failures of parts on your generator (please review the manufacturer’s warranty statement for coverage), while maintenance covers routine preventative maintenance services (i.e. oil changes, filter changes, testing, etc.).

What is generator preventative maintenance, and why is it important?

Generator preventative maintenance is a routine service to ensure your generator operates reliably during power outages. It includes inspections, testing, and maintenance to prevent unexpected failures.

How often should I schedule preventative maintenance for my generator?

The frequency of preventative maintenance depends on factors like generator usage and environmental conditions. Typically, it’s recommended every 6 to 12 months.

What are the benefits of a preventative maintenance agreement for my generator?

A maintenance agreement ensures regular, scheduled servicing, reducing the risk of breakdowns and extending the generator’s lifespan. It also provides priority service during emergencies.

What is generator load banking, and why is it necessary?

Generator load banking is a test that applies an artificial load to the generator to ensure it can handle its rated capacity. It helps verify the generator’s performance and reliability.

How often should load banking be performed on a generator?

Load banking should be conducted periodically, typically every 12 to 24 months, or when significant changes are made to the generator system.

Can load banking identify issues with my generator's performance before they become critical?

Yes, load banking can reveal potential problems with your generator’s performance, such as voltage fluctuations or overheating, allowing for timely repairs.

What is a generator overhaul, and when is it necessary?

A generator overhaul involves a comprehensive refurbishment of the generator to extend its lifespan and improve performance. It’s necessary when the generator’s components are nearing the end of their service life.

What are the signs that my generator may need an overhaul or refurbishment?

Signs include increased breakdowns, reduced efficiency, or when the generator no longer meets your power requirements.

What does a generator refurbishment typically entail?

A generator refurbishment may involve replacing worn-out parts, upgrading outdated components, and ensuring the generator complies with current codes and standards.

Is generator refurbishment a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a new generator?

Generator refurbishment can be a cost-effective solution, especially when your current generator has a solid engine and frame. It can save money compared to purchasing a new generator.

How long does a generator overhaul or refurbishment typically take to complete?

The duration varies depending on the extent of the work and the generator’s size and complexity. It can range from a few days to several weeks.
