Job Description
We are seeking a personable and skilled Senior Estimator to help support the growth of our construction practice which specializes in commercial and industrial applications. As the Senior Estimator, you will be at the forefront of our project planning and execution process. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for a wide range of projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other members of the leadership team to ensure that all estimates are comprehensive and aligned with project goals.
The day-to-day responsibilities of the Senior Estimator include:
- Estimate Preparation: Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for electrical and construction projects, ensuring all aspects of the project are covered. Review and validate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to gather necessary information and ensure estimates reflect the full scope of the project.
- Software Utilization: Utilize industry-standard estimating software such as Acubid, McCormick, EBI, and Esticom to create precise and reliable estimates. Assess and recommend estimating tools and software to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the estimating process.
- Team Leadership: Oversee and manage customer RFPs, other proposal documents, and bid analysis to ensure thorough and competitive submissions. Mentor and build a high-performing estimating team, providing guidance and support to junior estimators.
- Airfield Systems (Optional): Provide specialized expertise in estimating airfield systems projects, if applicable.
- Continuous Process Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the estimating process.
Key Characteristics of the General Manager
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the structure of RFPs/SOWs, with the ability to identify and analyze key components within customer documents. Extensive involvement in the proposal process, with a proven track record of building and winning large-scale deals across various construction methods, materials, and their associated costs. A strong background in electrical estimating and/or trade specialty, with a comprehensive understanding of industry standards and best practices.
- Analytical Skills: Capability to analyze complex project plans, specifications, customer documents, and vendor quotes/pricing sheets. Exceptional math skills to perform detailed calculations related to quantities, costs, and project budgets. Capable of relating intricate project requirements and scope to the original customer request.
- Software Proficiency: Extensive experience with industry-standard estimating software such as Accubid, McCormick, EBI, and Esticom. High technical aptitude, with proficiency in workflow management tools like Asana, Trello, or Monday.com. Ability to evaluate and recommend estimating tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the estimating process.
- Strong Communication and Time Management Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines consistently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and suppliers. Proven ability to consolidate multiple last-minute vendor quotes and deliver comprehensive proposals on tight deadlines.
- Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, readily adapting to shifting project priorities and unexpected challenges. Demonstrates flexibility and a proactive approach to learning new skills. Proven ability to create and develop an effective estimating team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and successful project outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with own reliable transportation.
- Minimum 10 years GC estimating experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sourcing techniques and applicant tracking systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
