Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Upgrade MCO ATC Tower Critical Power Distribution System

The Orlando International Airport (MCO) Tower Electrical Upgrade project that Eau Gallie Electric completed involved critical power distribution system enhancements. Eau Gallie Electric installed a new 600kw Kohler generator, upgraded panels and gear by adding 7 distribution panels and replacing 4 step-down transformers. Installed new ducts inside the facility up to the 14th floor, and 300’ vertical duct installation. The technical nature of the installation of new electrical ducts several hundred vertical feet inside the Air Traffic Control Tower, involved rappelling and special material handling techniques.

The entire critical power distribution system was replaced to a live, fully operational air traffic control tower at one of the busiest airports in the United States without disrupting any flight operations. This was accomplished by close coordination with the FAA that included twenty-four (24) separate overnight power shutdowns.
